Faith is tough on a normal day, so what do you do when your marriage is falling apart, and your world is shattered with a diagnosis of Stage Four pancreatic cancer? Charlotte learns the hard way in If I Should Fall by Heather Nadine Lenz. She’s worked hard to create the perfect home, the perfect life, and the perfect family, but it started to come unraveled when her husband had an affair. She struggles to keep her psychiatry practice in line, stay in contact with her family, care for her two small children, and deal with the gossip in the small town of McCall, Idaho. The cancer diagnosis not only brings Charlotte pain and doubt, but leads her to struggles with forgiveness and mercy as she unexpectedly faces her final days. When her sister finds a new love interest who charms the family but gives Charlotte bad vibes, doubt starts to creep in, leaving Charlotte to question everything, including herself, her faith, and her belief in God.

I read this book in two days because I couldn’t put it down. I lost three friends to cancer in an eighteen-month period (two to pancreatic, and one to lung cancer), so this book called to me and particularly touched me. I love how Heather Nadine Lenz deals with mortality and death so honestly, much like my friends did. Their struggles and reconciliation of faith in their final days not only confirmed my own faith, but inspired me with strength and courage so that I can truly face all things through Christ. This book reminded me of those lessons, while telling a touching story of life, death, forgiveness, mercy, and redemption. If you’re looking for a Christmas novel for yourself or to gift to a friend that will inspire, teach, and encourage you to find blessings in everyday life, then If I Should Fall is a great pick. Bless you, Heather, for writing and sharing this wonderful story, and for opening our eyes to a bigger reality that we tend to blind ourselves to in our own walk through every day.”
